Daily Ditty: Islands

Islands by The XX

I'll be completely honest here. I pretty much hate this band. But every once and a while there comes along a song from band you hate and you just want to hate it but you can't. There's just something about this one song that sets it apart from anything else The XX has made.

Other song suggestions from The XX:
none

I know I've been putting out a lot of this indie hipster music that everyone can enjoy, so I'm going to try and vary it up a lot more in the coming week. You can email any suggestions to spencer_dubas91@hotmail.com or message me on twitter @spencerdubas

Daily Ditty: For The First Time

For The First Time by The Script

Okay so this might not follow my usual hidden gem type songs that I like to post, but this song has been stuck in my head for a solid 2 days now and it's actually getting better each time I hear it. The script is band out of the UK who has recently became known in North America mainly for their Billiard Top Hit 'Breakeven'. But they have just put out a new album 'Science and Faith' which I find great.

Daily Ditty: The Space In Between

The Space In Between by How to Destroy Angels

Sporting a wicked awesome name as well as a famous rock legend, How To Destroy Angels is a new band that's been eating up my music playlist time lately. Trent Reznor (of Nine Inch Nails) along with his wife as lead singer make up this more subtle rock band. With a heavy emphasis on electronic sounds, How To Destroy Angels has been slowly putting together their first songs, and I for one can't wait to see where this band goes from here. I don't do any drugs, but if I did, band would be at the top of my Triplist.

Other Song Suggestions from How To Destroy Angels:
The Believers
A Drowning

Daily Ditty: This City's A Mess

This City's A Mess by Said The Whale

I've always had this band tucked in my back pocket for those crappy days when I just something relaxing and yet still able to cheer me up. That's what Said the Whale is. A local indie band from Vancouver, these guys rock same great tunes and make some even greater videos. And they recently won the Georgia Strait Best of Vancouver Indie Band Award, reminding me just how good they are. Hope you enjoy it.

Other song suggestions from Said The Whale:
Camilo (The Magician)

Daily Ditty: Bitch, Look at Me Now

Bitch, Look at Me Now by Childish Gambino

Childish Gambino was started by Donald Glover, who is known for his sketch comedy group 'Derrick Comedy'. And although he may come from a comedic background, His music stands out to me on it's own merit. It's just some good songs.

Other song recommendations from Childish Gambino:
Almost There
So Much Better

Daily Ditty: Saddr Weirdr

Saddr Weirdr by Bomb the Music Industry!

Bomb the Music Industry is as about as indie sounding that you can find. Though the singer may not have the most 'talent' out there, or really any vocal ability at all, their music is just plain catchy. You may not like this song at first , but just give it a couple more listens and it will grow on you greatly and you will find yourself singing "I put all my books in a box" throughout the day. I know I do.

Other song suggestions by Bomb the Music Industry!:
I Don't Love You Anymore
I'm a Panic Bomb, Baby!

Daily Ditty: Summertime

Summertime by Brother Love

Brother Love is an amazing performer out of New York that I found a few years ago through the popular comedy podcast "Keith and the Girl" (which everyone should check out) Brother Love always has the feel good, everything is positive attitude which I can only dream for. He has recently joined on with the up-and coming-band Her and Kings county (which everyone should check out as well.) His music is really just a feel good jam that I dare you to not find yourself bobbing along to. Summers almost over, well it over here in BC, so see this as the final hoorah to summer.

Other Songs I would suggest from Brother Love:
There She Goes
Push

Daily Ditty: Help I'm Alive

Help I'm Alive by Metric

Metric is a Canadian Indie rock band formed out of Toronto. Known for there upbeat music, Metric has quickly become one my my favorite band to come out of the Great North. Though you may know some of Metrics more mainstream hits such as Poster of a Girl and recent hit Stadium Love. I would strongly suggest checking out some of their less heard back albums, I'm sure you'll be pleasantly surprised. And although most Metric songs have a very studio finished sound, their acoustic and lives sets are really what make them stand out in my mind.

Other Songs I would suggest from Metric:
Raw Sugar
Glass Ceiling

Welcome to the Site!

So I've been thinking about starting a music site for a while. Couldn't figure out what I wanted to be about or any great ideas for starting it. Sadly I still don't have any those ideas, but I do have this site now.

I've been a true music lover for only a couple years now but music really does effect my life and how I live it. I can enjoy almost song, and if my iTunes playlist does from some Taylor Swift to a Eminem song it won't bother me one bit. I am currently 30 000+ songs deep in my computer, 95 days worth and a have almost listen to it all. Yeah you can call me a geek.

So what will this blog have in-store? Honestly I'm not too sure. I will be rolling out some of my favorite gems daily, in something I am titling My Daily Ditty, and sharing my feeling on some new music coming out each week. But besides that, well, we'll just have to see where the music takes me.
